qTOWER 2.0 and 2.2 advanced real-time qPCR systems qTOWER 2.0 and 2.2 advanced real-time qPCR systems

Key Features:

  • Available in standard (2.0) or gradient versions (2.2)
  • Optimized for volumes of 10 – 60 µl
  • Can be configured individually with up to 6 different measurement channels
  • Choice of 10 high-resolution qPCR excitation and emission filters (colour or FRET modules). Filters can be added to the unit after purchase as required.
  • High-speed scanning rate of 6 seconds for a 96 well microplate independent of the number of dyes to be measured
  • Heating rates up to 5.5oC/sec and cooling rates up to 4oC/sec
  • Sensitivity of 1nM FAM in minimal 30 uL sample volume
  • Intuitive qPCRsoft software provides instrument control, protocol development and data analysis capability
The qTOWER 2.0 and 2.2 have been designed to allow the use of standard PCR consumables such as 0.2 mL single tubes, 8-well strips of 0.2 mL tubes or 96-well PCR microplates. The qTOWER 2.0 and 2.2 work with 3 independent, long-life, stable blue, white and red LEDs to optimally excite fluorescence dyes over a wide spectral range. This ensures that the highest possible quantum yield is achieved in each real-time PCR experiment. The qTOWER 2.0 and 2.2 can easily process sophisticated multiplex experiments with up to 6 different fluorescence-tagged probes ranging from blue to the far-red spectral range. The patented optical system used for this application consists of a shuttle with 8 high performance fibers which guarantee that the 96 well block can be read out quickly in only 6 seconds independent of the number of dyes to be measured.

Ten different colour and FRET modules are available:

Name Excitation Emission Dyes

Module 1 470 nm 520 nm FAM, Sybr Green, Alexa 488
Module 2 515 nm 545 nm JOE, HEX, VIC, Yakima Yellow
Module 3 535 nm 580 nm TAMRA, DFO, Alexa546, NED
Module 4 565 nm 605 nm ROX, Texas Red, Cy 3.5
Module 5 630 nm 670 nm Cy5, Alexa 633, Quasar 670
Module 6 660 nm 705 nm Cy5.5, LightCylcer Red
FRET 1 470 nm 580 nm FAM (donor) / TAMRA (acceptor)
FRET 2 470 nm 670 nm FAM (donor) / Cy5 (acceptor)
FRET 3 470 nm 705 nm FAM (donor) / Cy5.5 (acceptor)
FRET 4 515 nm 670 nm JOE (donor) / Cy5 (acceptor)

The qTOWER 2.0 and 2.2 have a 96 well, gold-anodized, silver block. The block temperature range is 3oC – 99oC. Temperature control modes include block control or tube control (simulated). The lid is heated up to 110oC.

The qTOWER 2.0 is supplied with qPCRsoft software for instrument control, protocol development and data analysis. qPCRsoft includes numerous methods for evaluating fluorescence data. This includes determination of PCR efficiencies and performance of absolute and relative quantifications. Other analytical techniques include delta-delta Ct method that allows for the determination of the relative expression level of a gene of interest in relation to one or more reference genes. End-users can also use qPCRsoft to investigate reliable concentrations and precise allele conditions and to display exact expression ratios. Once defined, parameter sets can be applied as templates for future applications and be reused continuously. There is no limit to the number of protocols that can be stored on the laptop. Upgrades to the qPCRsoft are provided at no charge to the end-user.

The qTOWER advanced real-time qPCR system has been developed by Analytik Jena of Jena, Germany, and is based on a novel fiber optic system patented by the company. The qTOWER uses high power long-life LED light sources and a highly sensitive channel photomultiplier. The unit combines real-time fluorescence detection with Analytik Jena's super-fast rapidPCR technology that can generate ramping rates of up to 12 °C/sec at the same time as considerably reducing sample volume down to as low as 5 µL per reaction.

The qTOWER is a highly flexible instrument offering nine different colour modules that make it ideal for multiplexed applications using commercially available fluorescent dyes.
