GIX Microplotter Desktop picoliter printer GIX Microplotter Desktop picoliter printer

Key Features

  • Non-contact deposition
  • Features as small as 5 μm
  • Viscosities up to 450 cP
  • True contiguous lines, arcs and bends
  • Microfeature printing
  • Consistent spot size and shape with coefficients of variability as low as 10%
  • 3-axis positioning with 20 μm resolution
  • Integrated digital video capture
The SonoPlot® GIX Microplotter Desktop is a benchtop picoliter fluid dispensing system for the life science, polymer, electronics and nanotechnology/nanofabrication markets with significant advantages over existing products in deposited feature size and type, regularity of volumes dispensed, and flexibility for the end-user. Key applications include:
  • Rapid prototyping
  • Macro-electronics printing
  • Protein microarrays
  • Patterning of live cells.
The core of the Microplotter Desktop is a dispenser that uses controlled ultrasonics to deposit fluids in a non-contact manner. This patented technology can produce picoliter droplets that form features on a surface as small as 5 μm wide. When combined with automatic surface height calibration, coefficients of variability for deposited feature diameters as small as 10% can be achieved. A wide range of fluids can be used, including aqueous solutions and many organic-solvent-based mixtures. Fluids that other dispensers struggle with, such as saturated solutions for MALDI-TOF matrices, or fluids with viscosities up to 450 cP, can be deposited with ease. The ultrasonic pumping action is also an efficient cleaning mechanism for quickly depositing many solutions sequentially.

Custom enclosures are available for the GIX microplotters. Features include HEPA filtration (Class 100), humidity control and UV sterilization.

synQUAD non contact aspirate and dispense systems synQUAD non contact aspirate and dispense systems

The synQUAD dispensing platforms are ideal for the bulk addition of reagents to assay plates containing compounds for investigation. Use synQUAD to add buffers, receptors, enzymes and cells. SynQUAD systems also provide aspirate and dispense capability. This is useful for transferring limited volume samples such as live cells, enzymes, reagents or proteins.

The proprietary synQUAD technology was developed for high-speed dispensing. The technology involves the coupling of a high-speed micro-solenoid valve with a high resolution syringe pump and synchronization of the dispense system with the translation stage. The result is an extremely fast dispensing system which can deliver volumes from 20 nL to 20 µL. The synQUAD dispensing systems are able to place 500 nL into 1536 wells in 20 seconds. This revolutionary non-contact dispensing of drops on the fly is ideal for the most demanding HTS dispensing applications where high-speed and precise low volumes are required. The synQUAD technology is available in a number of configurations. Please download the synQUAD Technology brochure for a complete list of options. A technical bulletin (102) describing the theory and applications of synQUAD technology is available for download and a video showing synQUAD non-contact systems in operation can also be viewed. Technical Note 103 is also available for researchers looking for a method to automate and miniaturize SNP genotyping assays.

MicroSys high-throughput aspirate and dispense system MicroSys high-throughput aspirate and dispense system

Key Features:

  • 4 synQUAD™ channels
  • 3 microplate positions or 11 slides
  • Integrated wash/vacuum system
  • Vacuum pump
  • Computer controller and software
The MicroSys high-throughput aspirate & dispense system utilizes proprietary non-contact synQUAD™ technology and can be used to automate TaqMan SNP genotyping assays in 384 well plate formats. Consequently it has become an essential tool for large scale genotyping projects. The MicroSys helps to minimize routine bench work and automate the initial extensive volume reduction gradient to determine if reactions can be performed at lower volumes. This is important since not all TaqMan SNP genotyping assays are the same and there is considerable variation in sensitivity between different assays. Large-scale genotyping can commence once an optimum reduced reaction volume has been determined.

The MicroSys can be configured with either a three microplate nest or an 11 slide nest and can dynamically dispense volumes from 20nL to 20uL. Materials providing specifications for the MicroSys and its use for specific applications can be downloaded below. Additional Information on the principles behind synQUAD technology and its applications can be downloaded by clicking on the links above in the Aspirate & Dispense Systems section.

PixSys high-speed aspirate and dispense system PixSys high-speed aspirate and dispense system

Key Features:

  • 8 synQUAD™ channels
  • Choice of 10 microplate positions or 50 slide positions
  • Integrated wash/vacuum system
  • Vacuum pump
  • Computer controller and software
The PixSys is a high speed dispensing system with the option of a 10 microplate or 50 slide nest configuration. The synQUAD™ pumps incorporated into the PixSys provide multiple methods for liquid dispensing that includes:
  • Discrete drops (20 nL- several mLs). Individual drops are useful for applying small drops onto a solid target substrate or into a well.
  • Burst of drops (e.g. 1.0 µl dispensed in 100nl drops). This method improves mixing when dispensing into filled wells of a plate and reduces splashing if a large volume is dispensed into the filled wells of a plate.
  • Fast stream (dispensing of large volumes up to full syringe volume). This method is ideal for applications where filling a target well with a large volume of sample or diluent is required.
  • Line of drops (control of drop size and spacing). Line mode allows for rapid dispensing onto target.
Materials providing specifications for the PixSys and its use for specific applications can be downloaded below. Additional Information on the principles behind synQUAD technology and its applications can be downloaded by clicking on the links above in the Aspirate & Dispense Systems section.

PreSys small footprint aspirate and dispense system PreSys small footprint aspirate and dispense system

Key Features:

  • 8 synQUAD™ Channels
  • 2 Microtiter Plate Positions:
    • 1 Active for Robot Interface
    • 1 Passive
  • Integrated Wash/Vacuum System
  • Vacuum Pump
  • Computer Controller
  • Optional Plate Handler
The PreSys is a small footprint workstation with a 2 microplate configuration. It uses proprietary synQUAD™ Technology and is designed for the automation friendly laboratory. The synQUAD™ dispensers enable the researcher to select the motion of the dispenser. When high speed is a the priority drops can be dispensed on-the-fly and a single channel can fill a 1536 well plate in less than two minutes. On-the-fly dispensing is achieved by synchronizing not only the syringe and valve but also the movement of the platform. Some applications do not require the highest speed but do require good positional accuracy. The stop-and-drop dispense mode of the PreSys is ideal for these applications. It can place the dispense tip down to less than a mm above the destination and positioning the drop with exceptional accuracy.

Materials providing specifications for the PreSys and its use for specific applications can be downloaded below. Additional Information on the principles behind synQUAD technology and its applications can be downloaded by clicking on the links above in the Aspirate & Dispense Systems section.
